Detroit Tigers off to a Cracking Start

Although it sure didn't feel like baseball weather here, Tuesday was Tigers Opening Day in sunny Miami. Justin Verlander was on the bump against a Marlins side looking to improve on their 2015 season. Manager Don Mattingly and hitting coach Barry Bonds were brought in to help change a team that had the 2nd worst offense and a respectable record last year. Verlander took a no-hitter into the sixth and only gave up three runs. Detroit seemed in good hands for the ninth inning with a 7-4 lead, and new closer Francisco "K-Rod" Rodriguez coming in from the bullpen. After the Marlins tied it up in the 9th, Ian Kinsler delivered a game-winning single in extra innings.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia, formerly of the Marlins, had 4 RBIs to power the Tigers' 7-3 win on Wednesday. The Tigers then had an off-day to travel home for Friday's home opener against the Yankees. It was a chilly 38 degrees for Jordan Zimmermann's first pitch, and baseball had officially begun Detroit. Zimmerman went seven strong innings, and Miguel Cabrera's 7th inning homer was the dagger in a four to nothing win.

  1. Hey Markas,
This is Nick. First of all, great blogpost. I love the Tigers, even though the season has gotten off to a rough start. My favorite player is Miguel Cabrera and I am looking forward to an intense MLB season. I have lots of concerns about the Tigers' players however. My first concern is that Anibal Sanchez will not be as good as he has been in the past. My second concern is that Justin Verlander is losing velocity on his fastball. My final concern is that the power hitters will not perform as well as they are expected to.

  2. Hey Markas,
I love this blog post so much. It is nice to see that someone else is also into the Tigers. They are by far my favorite MLB team. I'm glad you mentioned Miguel Cabrera in your blog because he is my all time favorite baseball player even though his hitting was a little off at the begging of the season. His hitting is back on board though. Hopefully Justin Verlander will be able to come back this season with a much better and healthy arm to help out the Tigers. I really enjoyed your post and can't wait to see whats next.
